The onset of motion for oral or rectal administration varies from twenty to 60 minutes. For IM administration, the onset of motion is slightly speedier. Subsequent IV administration, the onset of motion ranges from almost immediately for pentobarbital sodium to five minutes for phenobarbital sodium.IM injection with the sodium salts of barbiturates
